Concerned about Pro audio sound reinforcement systems, professionals design zealously line array systems able to cover far fields. But, to cover near field as for medium and small applications, side fill and front fill, the short distance array system is more suitable. Therefore, while we improved our AT line array system for the far field sound reinforcement, we also concentrated our efforts and our know-how on a new short distance array system: The AR array series. We discovered that on application, the difference between an enclosure with a grill and one without grid is important. After testing products from different brands, it appears that some manufacturers lose more than 2dB for the high frequency because of the interference due to the reflection with the grid. We found that this problem comes from low passing rate of the sound though the grid. Some manufacturers don’t care about this problem and create fanciful shapes which increase the loss rate. Other professionals decided to make grids with bigger holes to resolve this problem.
 
This has a real impact on the sound but a grid with bigger holes is more flexible and when the sound pressure is high, the grid vibrates. These vibrations cause some noises so that the sound is not clear. Moreover, during the enclosure transportation, a flexible grid can easily be deformed. In order to avoid this problem some manufacturers use thicker grid but it increases the price of the product.
 
We had to find out another solution, but what could we do? After a lot of tests, LAX engineers improve the grid rigidity and created the “V” slot technology.
 
When we add the “V” slot to a grid, it increases the strength of it by creating two or more sections on its surface. Several tests reveal that a grid with the “V” slot technology is three times more rigid than a flat surface. With this technology the LAX AR12 avoid the problem of reduction sound pressure and preserve the rigidity of the grid.
 
Moreover, it has been proved that to get a grid as rigid as the LAX “V” slot grid with a flat one, it costs twice the price. The AR system uses “V” slots on the grid as the enclosure is bigger and to reduce the vibrations. Our AR array series is able to reduce the sound interferences with an appropriate and very rigid grid. A high passing rate ensures a noise reduction for the high and medium frequencies.
